‘An Astonishing Display Of Political Opportunism’ — Top Christie Supporter Slams Him For Supporting Trump

The fact that Chris Christie dropped out of the presidential race after a terrible finish in the New Hampshire primary was no surprise. When Christie decide to back Donald Trump, now that was a surprise. Unfortunately for Christie, he now seems to be just another Trump lackey being told what to do and when to do it.

Now, the former national finance co-chair of his campaign, Meg Whitman, is calling Christie out on his newfound support of Trump. According to the New York Times, the Hewlett-Packard executive recently told NBC News that:

“Chris Christie’s endorsement of Donald Trump is an astonishing display of political opportunism. Donald Trump is unfit to be president. He is a dishonest demagogue who plays to our worst fears. Trump would take America on a dangerous journey. Christie knows all that and indicated as much many times publicly. The governor is mistaken if he believes he can now count on my support, and I call on Christie’s donors and supporters to reject the governor and Donald Trump outright. I believe they will. For some of us, principal and country still matter.”

Whitman is absolutely right in her assessment of the situation. Christie repeatedly warned of a Trump presidency while on the campaign trail. This just illustrates the lengths that many politicians will go through to get support. Then for Christie to ask for his network of supporters to back Trump is just downright pathetic.

As the New York Times also reports:

“Mr. Christie, a former chairman of the Republican Governors Association, has since reached out to other elected officials, and called his donor network, to seek more establishment support for Mr. Trump.”

How convenient that Trump now doesn’t mind being part of the “establishment” that he seems so intent on fighting against. Maybe if Christie sucks up to Trump enough he can get a cabinet position. I’m thinking – the butler.
