How Often Does Trump Lie? We Now Have Scientific Data For The Answer

If I were to ask you how often you think Donald Trump lies, I know it would be tempting to say every time he opens his mouth, and I wouldn’t exactly fault you for that response. But now we have scientific research conducted by Politico which gives us a definitive number: Donald Trump lies every five minutes.

Here’s how Politico arrived at their figures: Following a week of fact-checking Trump’s statements–from stump speeches and press conferences–the magazine arrived at the one lie every five minutes figure. The estimated total was more than five dozen remarks that were mischaracterizations, exaggerations, or totally wrong. 60 lies. Here’s a sampling of those lies:

  • Trump claims he doesn’t take money from donors and is totally self-financing his campaign. But if you go to his campaign website, you can see buttons for you to click and donate all over the page.
  • Trump says again and again that the United States has a $500 billion trade deficit with China. Nope. And he has been corrected on this numerous times!
  • Trump says he never settles lawsuits against him. He has settled hundreds of them over the years.
  • Just last week, Trump cited a poll which he said showed Hispanic voters support him. That poll, conducted by the Wall Street Journal, actually showed quite the opposite.

Of course, Trump doesn’t have to be correct or the least bit honest in order to have his adoring acolytes lap up his inane lies as if they are icing on a cake. He has fooled millions with his ignorance and hatred, but he will be defeated in the end. Then he can go back to lying in business and on his tax returns.
