WATCH: George Will Says Trump Will Turn The GOP Into ‘The Party Of White People’

Republicans are scared to death that Donald Trump may win the GOP nomination. They are scurrying about from multiple directions, seeking ways they can arrange a brokered convention where they can nominate another candidate, floating the idea of a third-party run by a “real” Republican, and even wondering aloud of they can simply toss Trump out of the party completely. Why are they doing these things? Because they know Trump will utterly destroy the GOP.

The latest to weigh in on the matter of Donald Trump is conservative commentator George Will, who said on Fox News Sunday:

“The problem is this. Not only are his negatives at 61 percent — almost double his positives, they are at 32 percent — but he’s appealing entirely to white people.”

Yes, Trump is indeed a very polarizing figure. There is no in-between with him. Voters either love him or hate him. But it was what Will said next that left me shaking my head and chuckling:

“[Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney] got 17 percent — that’s all — of the non-white vote. Trump, by every measure, would do worse than that. Which means he would not have to get just the 65 percent of the white vote to win that Ronald Reagan got, sweeping 49 states. He would have to get 70 percent of the white vote.”

Republicans are just now getting around to realizing their party is the Party of White People? Didn’t they already know this most basic fact about the GOP? As long as they were winning elections and whites were an overwhelming majority, that was a great strategy for them. But now, with Hispanics as the fastest growing minority group in the United States, the GOP can see that they are doomed.

Will finished with this epitaph for his party:

“It would destroy the Republican Party by making it the party of white people.”

But that’s what the GOP is, George? Haven’t you been paying attention?
