When we all awoke this morning, turned on the news, and saw reports of the horrible attacks in Brussels by agents of the terrorist group ISIS, we should have expected the idiocy to start flowing copiously from Republicans in this country. And Ted Cruz didn’t let us down.
Cruz immediately took to Facebook and posted this:
“Our European allies are now seeing what comes of a toxic mix of migrants who have been infiltrated by terrorists and isolated, radical Muslim neighborhoods.
“We will do what we can to help them fight this scourge, and redouble our efforts to make sure it does not happen here. We need to immediately halt the flow of refugees from countries with a significant al Qaida or ISIS presence.”
Teddy Boy even has a plan for this country, despite the fact that the attacks took place in Belgium:
“We need to empower law enforcement to patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized. The days of the United States voluntarily surrendering to the enemy to show how progressive and enlightened we are at [sic] an end.”
Isn’t Cruz always saying how we need to carefully follow the Constitution in this country? So now we’re supposed to place police spies in Muslim neighborhoods so we can find out what’s going on? Hey, Ted, why not just go whole hog and say–as Donald Trump has–that we need to ban all Muslims from entering the United States? Neither of those plans would ever pass Constitutional muster, but Cruz and his GOP brethren have to pretend to be tough on a matter they know very little about.
It’s sad that instead of coming together to fight those who would harm us, the Republicans always seem to advocate measures that would only further divide us.
