Yesterday, Alabama’s Republican Governor Robert Bentley admitted to making inappropriate sexual comments to one of his top aides. Bentley was accused by Spencer Collier, the former law enforcement secretary, of making comments and having a physical relationship with Rebekah Mason, a close adviser and long-term aide.
Collier was fired Tuesday for “a number of issues” including misuse of state funds. Collier said in a press statement that Bentley told him a month ago that he loved Mason.
He lied at first, but Bentley came clean about it Wednesday, saying that he said some “inappropriate things” and “made a mistake.” He was also quick to add that it happened two years ago. He said he apologized to Mason and her family.
Bentley’s wife of 50 years filed for divorce in August, which just added to the gossip going around about the governor.
Some recordings of Bentley’s comments were released to al.com. Collier said he can clearly hear Bentley’s voice talking about touching Mason’s breasts. There was really no other way to interpret these comments. He said he did not have a physical relationship with her, and Mason didn’t say anything about the tapes or the allegation of an affair.

Mason said it is an example of gender bias. She said Collier “would not have said that about a male employee.” So, Bentley had to do a Bill Clinton-style press conference to say he had not had physical relations with that woman. She didn’t deny the accusations from Collier, so she was caught dirty talking with her boss, and it’s because of her gender?
This is not a new issue. Collier said that he saw a text from Mrs. Mason on Bentley’s phone in 2014. So, she may not have started it, but she went along with.
Ladies, don’t sext with your boss! Also, Mr. Governor, keep it in your pants, please!
