We’ve all heard it a million times: Kids say the darndest things. And never was that more true than during a Town Hall with the entire Cruz family last night on CNN. In attempt to humanize himself (which is nearly impossible), Cruz relayed a story of him dressing up to the delight of his daughters, Caroline and Catherine, recalling:
“She got to dress up Daddy in a pink boa and these like, big goofy-looking underwear…”
The oldest of the two girls, Caroline, who’s seven, then completed the thought, saying:
“And [inaudible] it was on a videotape the whole time. And that was a class video that they’re sending out to all the parents.”
OK, so let me see if I have this straight: There’s a video of Ted Cruz wearing a feather boa and big underwear floating around somewhere? Something tells me the Trump campaign is already on the phone trying to purchase a copy of that video so they can use it in upcoming attack ads against Teddy Boy.
Once young Caroline had let the proverbial cat out of the bag, all Cruz could say was, “Uh-oh.” CNN host Anderson Cooper, trying not to laugh so much he broke a rib, remarked, “Oh, really?” Cruz’s wife, Heidi also appeared to be trying to get her precocious oldest daughter to put a sock in that kind of talk.
So now we have to imagine Ted Cruz in a feather boa and undies dancing around? Did we really need to know that? I do believe the phrase “too much information” was created specifically for such occasions.
Granted, this was a cute moment of sharing between father and daughter which is one of the few times Cruz actually appeared normal. And yes, had my own daughter asked me do the same, I’m sure I would have. Then again, I’m not running for President and don’t have the creepy, chill-inducing smile of a serial killer which Ted possesses.
Kids: They say the darndest things. And sometimes the most nauseating.
