TX Governor Greg Abbott Given $35K Donation By Trump After Dropping Trump U Probe

While he was still Texas Attorney General and was seeking to replace Rick Perry as Governor of the Lone Star state, Greg Abbott ended a probe into possible fraud committed by the now defunct Trump University. Not long after he dropped the investigation into Trump U, Abbott received a $35,000 campaign donation from Trump.

Can you say quid pro quo, Governor Abbott?

Trump is under increasing pressure after the release this week of all court documents related to a federal fraud suit which has been filed by former students who attended Trump University. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who is also suing Trump on behalf of the state, has called Trump University:

“Fraud…straight-up fraud.

“(Trump) was clearly in charge of pitching this scam university to people.”

Neither the Trump campaign or Governor Abbott’s office would comment on the report from the Associated Press which detailed the connection between the presumptive GOP nominee and Abbott.

Those who bought into Trump University wound up paying as much as $35,000 for what was marketed as private mentoring with supposed real estate experts. Some of those promised “experts” Trump himself later admitted were completely unqualified.

Trump has repeatedly defended Trump University by citing surveys which he says show 98 percent of students were pleased with the program. But those surveys were taken before students had completed the full program and were not anonymous. A much higher percentage later demanded refunds, which they never received.

But the timing of the Trump University suit could not possibly be worse for Trump, who is now being painted as a con man and scam artist who preyed on the fears and financial weaknesses of those seeking to stay afloat in the uncertain economic environment of the late 1990s.
