Is It ‘Monty Python’ Or Senator Lindsey Graham? (Video)

If you are of a certain age, you no doubt remember the hilarious movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It is the story of noble King Arthur and his Knights, seeking the famous drinking cup of Jesus.

It has a lot of lame, but remarkably funny bits in it. One of the best bits is that of (spoiler alert) the Knights and the King encountering a little white bunny. They march boldly forward, sure that they can slay the rabbit, but he rips off one head after another, and soon they are desperate to escape. As they do, the King is shouting “Run away! Run away!”

For some reason, when I think of Senator Lindsey Graham (R-N.C.) and this election, I think of this scene.

When the 2016 election season began, what feels like years ago, Sen. Graham was one of the candidates hoping to win the Republican nomination. At that time, I assume that he viewed frontrunner, Donald Trump (R-N.Y.) as a little white bunny, in the race just for publicity. Not a real threat.

Then in July, Trump went after Sen. Graham’s best buddy, Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.). He denied that Sen. McCain was the war hero that most people know him as. Sen. Graham was furious. He called Trump “a jackass” on CNN, and predicted that the remark would be the end of Trump’s campaign.

Suddenly it seemed that the little white bunny had some teeth.

Trump’s campaign didn’t fold, as we all know. Instead, it got more uncivil day by day. Later in the summer of 2015, Graham had more criticism of Trump, saying in one debate:

Mr. Trump, you don’t have to speak about everything. It’s not required.

The little white bunny was looking more sinister.

On May 9, Sen Graham declared that he would not, under any circumstances, vote for Donald J. Trump, the dangerous attack rabbit. The always witty Sen. Graham said:

I’ve got a hard time supporting somebody for president who spent thousands of dollars of their own money trying to find out if President Obama was born in Kenya versus Hawaii. I think that’s crazy. I’m just glad we’re having the convention in Cleveland, not Area 51 … I think Donald Trump is going to places where very few people have gone and I’m not going with him.

Poor Lindsey Graham. On May 23, Mediaite reported that Sen. Graham was quietly urging Republicans to get behind Trump in order to stop Hillary Clinton. The report even said that the two had spoken by phone.

I can’t imagine the pain and fear that this must have caused the South Carolina Senator!

Then came Trump’s very public, very racist attack on Judge Curiel. Senator Graham now sees the truth and apparently regrets his mild support. This little rabbit has turned into a dangerous, dangerous foe!

Mediaite is now reporting that Senator Lindsey Graham is calling on his fellow Republicans to “unendorse” Donald Trump, saying:

This is the most un-American thing from a politician since Joe McCarthy … If anybody was looking for an off-ramp, this is probably it. There’ll come a time when the love of country will trump hatred of Hillary.

In other words, “Run away!!”
