You know who I feel sorry for?
I feel sorry for the Cleveland police chief, that’s who. The Mayor of Cleveland, too. I feel incredibly sorry for both of them.
Can you imagine what it feels like to be the hosts of a national political convention where a third of the attendees hate the nominee? Can you imagine trying to manage security for 50,000 attendees? What must it be like to try to protect the various protest groups that have announced they’ll be marching in the streets?
Oh, and let us not forget that all of this is going to be happening in a state that allows every one of these people to carry a loaded gun.

I just feel so sorry for the Mayor and the Chief. This is especially true because both men have told the Wall Street Journal that they have a duty to uphold the state’s insane gun laws, even though they disagree with those laws.
Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson said:
“Our intent is to follow the law. And if the law says you can have open carry, that’s what it says. Whether I agree with it or not is another issue.”
So the entire country is now poised to watch as the Republican Party holds its convention in Cleveland, Ohio. A city where the two officials in charge of public safety will allow the mobs to gather in the streets with guns in hand.
This cannot possibly make sense to anyone with a functional brain, yet that’s where we find ourselves.
At least the mayhem will be confined to the streets outside of the actual convention site. The Secret Service will be stopping the delegates from bringing their guns into the convention hall itself, which begs the question of where they plan to leave their arsenals during the speeches.
In a move that screams to me of quiet desperation, the city has banned water guns, tennis balls, rope, and spray cans from much of the downtown area. I can’t imagine that this will make anyone any safer, but maybe it lets the two leaders get some sleep at night.
