Former GOP Senator: Expect ‘Riotous Conditions’ At Republican Convention

The 2016 Republican National Convention begins tomorrow night in Cleveland, Ohio, and while the GOP is trying their darndest to put a happy face on the fact that they will be nominating the most divisive candidate in American history, the Donald Trump campaign is assuring delegates that everything will run smoothly and provide the perfect opportunity for the expected post-convention bump in the polls.

But former New York Senator Al D’Amato isn’t nearly as confident as the Trump camp when it comes to expecting a smooth convention week. D’Amato is predicting chaos, commenting:

“Some of the hooligans will be armed, and I think they will look to create real trouble there. So I think you are going to have riotous conditions outside caused by these absolute degenerates who don’t give a darn about the values of this country and are trying to rip us apart.”

Adding to fears of what might happen outside the Quicken Loans Arena, site of the convention, is the fact that the New Black Panthers and some pro-Trump organizations have said they will openly carry weapons as they demonstrate.

D’Amato also said he sees no way that Trump won’t be the 2016 GOP nominee:

“Inside the convention it’s going to go all Trump’s way. I think it’s rather pathetic for those who can’t get over their loss. The one guy, Romney, who didn’t have the cojones to run, should be ashamed of himself. He did nothing but try to scuttle Trump from the beginning. He’s like a spoiled little kid…I didn’t know he was a jealous, malevolent person underneath all that guile.”

Should conditions outside the convention arena devolve into violence and mayhem, the GOP may get a taste of what happened to the Democrats in 1968, when their convention was held in Chicago. Mass protests against the Vietnam War and a severe crackdown by Chicago police led to a circus atmosphere which sank any chance the Democrats might have had of beating Richard Nixon, who went on to win the general election.
