Doting Fan Gives Trump His Purple Heart, Gets Mocked — ‘Much Easier’ To Get One This Way (VIDEO)

At a campaign rally in Ashburn, Virginia today, Donald Trump added to his ever growing library of asinine comments today when he accepted a Purple Heart from a veteran with these gracious words, “is that like uhh, the real one or is that a copy?”

Trump took a few moments to tell the “heartwarming” tale of an obviously starstruck veteran who had just presented Trump with his Purple Heart.

According to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Purple Heart medal is:

“The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the armed forces of the U.S. who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action.”

Trump, who had five draft deferments to avoid military service, has made news in the past by saying of veterans such as former Prisoner of War, Senator John McCain (R-AZ):

“He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

So rather than go through the gritty details of actually serving in the U.S. Military and literally sacrificing for a greater cause, Trump accepted the medal today by saying of the encounter with the veteran:

“And I said, ‘Man that’s like, that’s like big stuff.’ I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was…much easier, but I tell you it was such an honor.”

Hillary Clinton tweeted it best:
