Trump Campaign Sends Letter BEGGING Capitol Hill For Khan Controversy Help, Suggests Talking Points (VIDEO)

Things have been going steadily downhill for Donald Trump in the week since Khizr and Ghazala Khan took the stage at the Democratic National Convention. The Khans honored their son, Army Captain Humayun Khan, killed in Iraq 12 years ago. They also had some choice words for a certain orange-faced menace.

Trump Begs For Help

Amidst the fury coming at him from all sides after his attack of the Khan family, Trump aides sent a letter today to Capitol Hill, begging lawmakers to come to his defense.

“Rob Wasinger, a onetime congressional candidate who has been working for the Trump camp on congressional outreach, sent an email to senior Senate aides saying, ‘We want to get several member statements out today on this, and would really appreciate your help.’

A similar appeal was made to Republicans in the House of Representatives, according to a senior aide.

Attached to the appeal were talking points lawmakers could use to try to tamp down the controversy growing since last week’s appearance at the Democratic convention by the Khans, the parents of U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan, who was killed by a bomb in Iraq 12 years ago.”

Hey Trump, if you can’t stand the heat, get your head out of your ass.

As of publication, no Republican Congressperson has responded to Trump’s cry for help.

Trump Attacked The Parents

Trump responded harshly last week to Khan’s DNC speech, in his usual manner. Now, however, Republicans are finding themselves between a rock and a hard place, wherein the party who is always screaming “support the troops!” has a presidential nominee willing to say awful things to Gold Star parents.

Leaders of the Republican party, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, released statements supporting the Khan family, though they never mentioned Trump by name.

John McCain, however, was not as subtle in his statement. Trump has been in hot water before for making disparaging statements last year about McCain’s time as a POW in Vietnam. McCain said, in part:

“In recent days, Donald Trump disparaged a fallen soldier’s parents. He has suggested that the likes of their son should not be allowed in the United States — to say nothing of entering its service. I cannot emphasize enough how deeply I disagree with Mr. Trump’s statement. I hope Americans understand that the remarks do not represent the views of our Republican Party, its officers, or candidates.”

The Republican Party would like to believe that Trump’s words and deeds do not represent the views of the party. It’s true that even 20 years ago, his words and deeds would not have represented the Republican Party. The party, though, has shifted so far to the right that this is what they have now, and Trump, as the presidential nominee, is the de facto leader and face of the party.

You made this bed, Republicans. You built this.
