Wind power is a very promising resource for alternate forms of energy. The turbines at a wind farm spin when the wind hits them,and that turns an internal shaft in the turbine. The turbines are connected so that this spinning produces electricity. Wind power has the potential to provide 10 times the amount of energy consumed by the entire country.
The American Wind Energy association says this about the benefits of wind power:
“Wind energy is a clean, renewable form of energy that uses virtually no water and pumps billions of dollars into our economy every year. Since 2008, the U.S. wind industry has generated more than $100 billion in private investment. Furthermore, wind energy is a drought-resistant cash crop in many parts of the country, providing economic investment to rural communities through lease payments to landowners.”
But Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, asserted that wind power is not working. Although he stated that he knows all about solar energy, it is obvious that he doesn’t know anything about it when he says that wind power doesn’t work because turbines kill birds.
Drumpf said:
“The wind kills all your birds. All your birds, killed. You know, the environmentalists never talk about that.”
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says that 500,000 birds are killed annually at wind farms. This is much less than the more common bird threats such as cats and buildings.
Trump also said:
“I have friends that own the mines. I mean, they can’t live. The restrictions environmentally are so unbelievable where inspectors come two and three times a day and they can’t afford it any longer and they’re closing all the mines … It’s not going to happen anymore, folks. We’re going to use our heads.”
Why might Donald Trump be going after wind power? He’s fighting with Scotland over a wind farm. Trump has a golf resort in Scotland, and he doesn’t want wind turbines built near it. He has been fighting that for years.
He obviously doesn’t know science, but he does know money.
