This mother found a completely new way to respond to people who complain about her breastfeeding. She was breastfeeding in public in Kent, England, when a woman told her to move somewhere private. The mother allegedly “squirted her boob” at the complainer.
The complainer posted in a forum about the incident:
“I don’t think it was necessary for you to react the way you did just because I asked you to go somewhere private, telling me to f*** off and squirting me with your boobs was incredibly uncalled for. I hope you are ashamed of yourself!”
Many mothers stepped up to defend the breastfeeding woman. One person, Janice Holmes, said:
“I hope you’re ashamed of yourself, her reaction may not have been the right way to deal with your ignorance, but she has every right to feed her child there, if it offended you that much why didn’t you move?”
A 2010 law in England actually made it illegal for anyone to discriminate against a breastfeeding mother by asking her to leave a cafe, shop, or anywhere else.
I am adamantly childfree, but I don’t care if a woman breastfeeds in public. Honestly, I’d rather see that than listen to a baby cry.
Back in May, a photo of a woman breastfeeding at a rally for Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders went viral. She got some hate mail, but most of it was supportive. Bernie and his wife Jane actually came up to her after the speech to thank her for being a good mom.
There was one particularly stupid politician who weighed in on the issue.
New Hampshire’s Josh Moore actually tried to make it a misdemeanor for a woman to expose her nipple in public. Apparently, he thinks men are not responsible for their actions. He actually said:
“Who doesn’t support a mother’s right to feed? Don’t give me the liberal talking points Amanda. If it’s a woman’s natural inclination to pull her nipple out in public and you support that, than you should have no problem with a man’s [inclination] to stare at it and grab it. After all, it’s ALL relative and natural, right?[sic]”
This is just disgusting. Men should be able to restrain themselves in public. It is not the woman’s fault that some men are just creepy like that.
