Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, has a new speechwriter, Stephen Bannon. Bannon wrote in some apologies for the hateful things Trump has been saying during the whole campaign. He dutifully read the scripted speech.
The speech read in part:
“Sometimes, in the heat of debate and speaking on a multitude of issues, you don’t choose the right words or you say the wrong thing. I have done that, and I regret it, particularly where it may have caused personal pain. Too much is at stake for us to be consumed with these issues.”
His opponent, Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton’s campaign responded to his “apology” with this:
“Donald Trump literally started his campaign by insulting people. He has continued to do so through each of the 428 days from then until now, without shame or regret.”
“We learned tonight that his speechwriter and teleprompter knows he has much for which he should apologize. But that apology tonight is simply a well-written phrase until he tells us which of his many offensive, bullying and divisive comments he regrets—and changes his tune altogether.”
Just a few days ago, Trump said, “I am who I am,” and that he wasn’t going to change. He said that remark about personal pain, but then he said that being politically correct takes too much time, and he doesn’t want to waste time on those issues. That’s kind of a non-apology there, Mr. Trumpkin.
He then said he represents all Americans and will always tell the truth. His scripted speeches are just as bad; he is obviously full of sh*t.
Twitter also seems to be skeptical about The Donald’s new tone:
Donald Trump finally got introduced to the word apology, but he needed a speech writer and a Teleprompter.

Donald Trump's apology tour should start with his birtherism attacks on Obama.Apologize and acknowledge he was wrong. I won't hold my breath

#DonaldTrump's teleprompter apology was just as unbelievable as everything else that has come out of his ignorant, bigoted mouth so far!

The GOP has been urging Trump to change the tone of his campaign. This apology may be the beginning of that. I think he is totally faking it.
Here is a video of his apology speech:
