Surprised is definitely not the word that should be used when finding out that out of the 21 different instances that Donald Trump said he donated funds out of his own pocket to charities during The Apprentice, not once did he follow through.
Each week during Trump’s reality-TV show, after “schooling” celebrities and pseudo-celebrities on all things business he would promise a donation from his own pocket to the celebrity that he had to fire that week. The show made him look like a brilliant hard-nosed business person with a huge heart for helping others, which we all know is a big pile of crap.
On the air, Trump would say things such as “Out of my wallet,” or “Out of my own account.” However, after the Washington Post tracked 83 episodes over seven seasons, the money promised charities never once were donated from Trump’s personal funds.
Though some charities never saw a dime at all, most of the other charities were either paid through the station that was in contract with The Apprentice or from a fund owned by Trump whose money bank is primarily from high-priced donors.
The Donald Trump Foundation was initially created and solely supplied with funds by Trump but at the end of the 90’s he let the account dwindle to close to nothing. The foundation’s funds then began to grow back through generous donations by his famous and wealthy friends.
When his donations started to rise to where he was offering hundred of thousands of dollars in contributions a look at Trump Foundation showed exactly where the money was coming from. Trump had made zero contribution to his foundation.
However, NBC made a sizeable enough contribution that all his shows from 2012 and on were covered.
It’s amazing how even though Donald Trump is more than rich, he can’t even be honest enough to make his own charitable contributions. That’s low.
