Since Trump Is Losing, Republicans Might Be Rethinking Appointing Merrick Garland For SCOTUS (VIDEO)

The U.S Senate will be reconvening on September 6, and some of those Senators may be changing their minds about President Barack Obama’s choice for Supreme Court Justice.

President Obama nominated Chief Judge Merrick Garland to fill the Supreme Court vacancy. Obama called him:

“One of the sharpest legal minds in history.”

Garland is currently the Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. He was appointed to that position in 1997.

The Senate has been putting off the nomination because they want to wait and see who a Republican president would nominate. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has said that she would nominate someone more liberal, so that may make the Republican Senate change their minds.

Now that the Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, is losing, the idea of confirming Garland has come up. Trump keeps insisting that he has a great temperament for president. Voters are getting sick of hearing about his antics.

The Wall Street Journal reported this about Garland:

“…He is widely respected by people of both political parties as a man of experience, integrity and unimpeachable qualifications. The partisan decision of Senate Republicans to deny a hearing to a judge who has served his country with honor and dignity is not just an insult to a good man—it is an unprecedented escalation of the stakes.”

Trump is completely against confirming Garland, so this could be a way for Senate Republicans to distance themselves from the orange cancer that is The Donald.

The Republican bigwigs are against compromising with the Democrats, but they need to be worried about getting the moderate Republican voters.

Both presidential candidates have been talking about the Supreme Court vacancy as a  bunch of Congress seats are up for re-election this year. All of the Republican obstructionism is annoying voters. Hopefully, we can vote all of these Republicans out in November.

Here is John Oliver’s take on Merrick Garland:
