President Barack Hussein Obama has nominated a Muslim lawyer to a position as a federal judge.
I can hear the screams from the right. “Sharia law!”
Yeesh.
The Huffington Post reports that the President has nominated Washington lawyer Abid Riaz Qureshi to serve on the United States District Court of the District of Columbia.
How terrifying.
This man is a, gasp, practicing Muslim. Based on comments made by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, his faith would no doubt mean that he could not possibly be a fair and impartial judge.

Huh. I wonder if this means that all those Christian judges can’t be fair or impartial when they have Muslims in court…? Or Jews, or Hindus, or atheists?
At any rate, the President is quite enthusiastic about his pick. He said:
“I am pleased to nominate Mr. Qureshi to serve on the United States District Court bench. I am confident he will serve the American people with integrity and a steadfast commitment to justice.”
This comment is, of course, ridiculously optimistic. The Republicans in the Senate have stopped even pretending to consider the judicial nominees of the President of the United States. There is no chance that they’ll even think about considering lawyer Qureshi to a post as a judge.
I mean. Gee. He has a really Arabish sounding name. And he’s a, you know, Muslim. He must be wicked scary.
Just for the record, Abid Riaz Qureshi graduated from Cornell University and went on to earn a J.D. from Harvard Law. After his graduation from Harvard, Mr. Qureshi joined the prestigious firm of Latham & Watkins LLP, where he specializes in cases involving the False Claims Act, health care fraud, and securities violations.
My God. What a radical.
So. Here we have the truth, slapping us all in the face.
Unless you are a complete bigot, a total racist and an Islamophobic ass, you have to see that there’s no reason to deny this accomplished lawyer a seat on the Federal District Court.
And we all know that his name will never even be brought up by the Republican party.
