WATCH: Barbara Bush ‘I Don’t Know How Women Can Vote For Donald Trump’

I swear that what I’m about to write is true.

I’ve always admired Barbara Bush.

Now, given my extremely liberal political views and my Never Trump status, this might seem suspect. I really did think she was a pretty cool old lady, though. There were plenty of times when I thought, “You can’t blame the mother for the child’s failings.”

Now the website The Proud Liberal has a story that lets me know I was right. They write that the formidable former First Lady has come out with her own Never Trump statement.

Mrs. Barbara Bush is the wife of former President George H.W. Bush, and the mother of both former President George W. Bush and former presidential wanna-be Jeb Bush. She has certainly earned her place in the pantheon of staunch Republicans.

Mrs. Bush has a well earned reputation for grace, strength and outspokenness. At 91 years old, she is wise and she is deservedly well respected.

She appeared on CBS This Morning and was asked about Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. True to form, Mrs. Bush did not mince words.  She said:

“He’s like a comedian, or like a showman or something[…] I don’t know how women can vote for someone who said what he said about Megyn Kelly. It’s terrible. And we knew what he meant, too.”

See? I was right to admire Mrs. Bush back when she was in the White House, and then when she was the Mother of the President. I don’t necessarily love the ever-present pearl necklace that she wears, and I sure haven’t agreed with the political views of the men in her life.

I do admire strong, outspoken, opinionated women, though.

Barbara Bush has joined the increasing numbers of powerful Republicans who have declared themselves to be Never Trump voters. She is encouraging every other woman out there to join her, too.
