Donald Trump’s ex-wife Marla Maples – his second wife – was a beautiful 30-year-old woman when she married the now-Republican presidential nominee in 1993. A historian from the University of Illinois has uncovered an article from the New York Daily News (printed in the August 22, 1990 issue of the Arizona Republic, according to the same historian) that dates back to years before their marriage, in which Ms. Maples recounts how Trump pressured her into posing for Playboy.

The article, posted on Twitter by PhD candidate Jeff Nichols, tells a tale of a God-fearing child whose favorite book was the Bible. A child whose parents divorced when she was 15, causing her to worry for their future in Heaven. A child who grew up to be the mistress, and then wife, of Donald Trump.
The piece, written when the public knew of Trump’s affair with Maples but also during his marriage to his first wife, Ivana, goes to great lengths to show Maples in a positive light. Splashed across the top of the page are her words: “‘I Am NOT a home wrecker.'”
After being thrust into the national news, Maples was unsure of what to do. According to the article:
“She makes few moves without The Donald’s approval … Notably, she did resist Trump’s insistence that she accept Playboy magazine’s million-dollar centerfold offer. ‘Trump himself was on the phone negotiating the fee,’ remembers a top Playboy editor. ‘He wanted her to do the nude layout. She didn’t.’ (‘I’m thankful for my body, but I didn’t want to exploit it,’ Marla offers. ‘How would I ever be taken seriously?’)”
So after a week of shaming Alicia Machado, it’s revealed that Donald Trump’s ex-wife didn’t want to pose for Playboy, yet he allegedly forced her to do so. This is, without a doubt, a form of abuse. In essence, he pimped his mistress to the magazine against her wishes.
However, given Trump’s behavior toward women in general, it really shouldn’t surprise anyone.
