NEW POLL Shows One Candidate Gaining Ground Over Past Week

With the next Presidential debate now less than week away, it’s becoming clear that the first debate has indeed given Hillary Clinton a bump in the latest poll from Politico/Morning Consult.

In a four-way matchup which includes Clinton, Donald Trump, Gary Johnson, and Jill Stein, Clinton is favored by 42 percent of likely voters and Trump is has the support of 36 percent. Johnson garners the support of 9 percent of likely voters, and Green Party nominee Jill Stein is backed by 2 percent. Only 10 percent of voters said they were still undecided.

When Johnson and Stein are removed from the equation, Clinton’s lead jumps to seven points over her Republican opponent, 46 to 39 percent.

On specific issues, the Politico poll also reveals that 74 percent of likely voters said they had indeed heard about Trump’s comments about former Miss Universe Alicia Machado, and 55 percent of women said it gives them a less-favorable view of the GOP nominee. 43 percent of voters say the controversy makes them less likely to support Trump.

Should Trump stick to his promise to go negative and bring up former President Bill Clinton’s extramarital affairs, 56 percent of voters think that would be inappropriate while 62 percent of women surveyed said Trump should refrain from discussing Clinton’s marital indiscretions.

When voters were asked who was likely to win the second debate, which will be held on October 9 in St. Louis, Missouri,  44 percent of likely voters think Clinton will win the debate and only 22 percent say Trump will be victorious.

According to the latest  RealClearPolitics average of polls, Clinton has 2.5-point national lead in a head-to-head matchup with Trump, 47.5 to 45 percent.
