Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has stirred everyone up with his shitshow of a campaign. Now, he has a new achievement to add to the list of messed up things he’s said, done, and earned (taken). He has managed to not get an endorsement from a single major newspaper.
Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal, but this isn’t a normal election. The barrage of anti-Trump endorsements may have an effect on moderate Republicans.

Jack Pitney, professor of government at California’s Claremont McKenna College, said:
“It’s significant. The cumulative effect of all these defections could have an impact on moderate Republicans.”
Even many traditionally Republican papers are endorsing Clinton instead of the Oompa Loompa.
The Dallas Morning News has only supported Republican candidates since 1940, but their statement said:
“We don’t come to this decision easily. This newspaper has not recommended a Democrat for the nation’s highest office since before World War II — if you’re counting, that’s more than 75 years and nearly 20 elections.”
Cincinnati Enquirer editor Peter Bhatia said his paper has lost hundreds of subscriptions and that:
“There has been a substantial amount of blowback, that’s for sure. The people who are reacting are predominantly unhappy with the endorsement.”
“… I expected it would be vigorous–it has been vigorous. I guess what disappoints me on some level is how nasty some of it is. You’d be stunned by some of the names we’ve been called.”
USA Today, which has never endorsed any candidate before, said:
“Resist the siren song of a dangerous demagogue. By all means vote, just not for Donald Trump.”
The Washington Post said that Trump is a danger to the world:
“This year we will follow the campaign as always, offering honest views on all the candidates. But we cannot salute the Republican nominee or pretend that we might endorse him this fall. A Trump presidency would be dangerous for the nation and the world.”
