You would think that the leader of a so-called “Christian” university would reject Donald Trump in light of the objectionable things the GOP nominee has said about women and how he enjoys sexually assaulting them, but Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, Jr. continues to stand firmly with the Orange Menace. And that’s not sitting well with some students.
A student group called Liberty United Against Trump has issued a statement which is critical Falwell’s embrace of Trump. That same group says they think Trump’s association with Liberty harms the school. As they note in their statement:
“In the months since Jerry Falwell Jr. endorsed him, Donald Trump has been inexorably associated with Liberty University. We are Liberty students who are disappointed with President Falwell’s endorsement and are tired of being associated with one of the worst presidential candidates in American history.”
The students opposed to Trump also say being tied to any presidential candidate is against their Christian beliefs:
“Associating any politician with Christianity is damaging to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. But Donald Trump is not just any politician. He has made his name by maligning others and bragging about his sins. Not only is Donald Trump a bad candidate for president, he is actively promoting the very things that we are Christians ought to oppose.”
How, these students wonder, can anyone defend or excuse Trump’s remarks about how he likes to grab women’s genitals and kiss them against their will?
Donald Trump is a predatory sexual criminal who should be placed in prison. And Jerry Falwell, Jr. is a hypocrite who should be ashamed of pretending he’s a Christian.
