Generally speaking, I try to give wives a pass when it comes to having an assh*le for a husband. I’ve known wonderful women who have somehow found themselves legally tied to a guy I can’t stand.
I try, as a feminist, to judge women for their own worth, rather than for the reflected merit of their spouses.
So I have tried to avoid criticizing Melania Trump. She is a beautiful, articulate woman who has presented herself in a way that is refined and gentle. Why hate her?
OK, I know. She plagiarized her big speech at the RNC from the eminently fabulous Michelle Obama. Isn’t that really her speech writer’s fault, though? And, really, don’t we all want to be Michelle Obama?
I have tried not to blame Melania for that little bump in the road. I’ve tried. God knows I’ve tried.
But when she gave a speech last night at a rally for her hubby in the key swing state of Pennsylvania, I had to give up the fight. I had to admit that she is either a complete airheaded bimbo, or a stooge for the very awful Republican candidate for President.
Last night the exotic wife of Donald Trump told the crowd that both she and her husband share a “deep love and respect” for all Americans.
This statement ignored Donald’s many ugly comments about American Latinos, American Muslims and American Democratic protestors. Strike one, Melania.
She went on to bemoan the fact that our culture has become “too mean and too rough.”
Ya think? Strike two, Ms. Melania. You’re the one who married the man who promised to bomb the sh*t out of ISIS, to punch protestors in the face and to grab women by the p*ssy.
Next the beautiful Mrs. Trump lamented the lack of respect that Americans are showing each other lately. She talked about the ways in which social media is being used to insult and demean others. She stated that if she becomes the First Lady, she will focus on ending cyber bullying. With a totally straight face, Melania said:
“We must treat each other with respect and kindness, even when we disagree.”
Well, what a lovely sentiment, Mrs. Donald J. Trump.
As you can imagine, after she had smiled sweetly and gracefully drifted from the stage, the internet pretty much exploded in laughter.
Poor Melania. Twitter had a field day. She was almost too easy a target.
Melania Trump promoting decency on social media is like Mrs. Dahmer promoting veganism.

Melania's speech today would be like Bernie Madoff's wife giving a talk on integrity of investment portfolios and fighting Ponzi schemes

This one was particularly subtle and very funny:
Melania wants to end internet bullying? Really? #MelaniaSpeech pic.twitter.com/2qDT6yft2j

It’s all pretty hilarious, except for the fact that it isn’t funny at all. I don’t know whether Mrs. Trump should be throttled for her complete tone deafness or swaddled in bubble wrap to protect her fragile brain.
I tried, Melania. I really did want to let you off the hook.
Alas. I failed.
In the meantime, one more Tweet that is just too much to resist.
it is possible that Melania Trump has never actually met her husband https://t.co/G33mTqFXQ9
