The Trump transition team wants us all to calm down about the appointment of Steve Bannon to be chief strategist to the President-elect because he’s actually a hell of a nice guy. Sure, he’s an anti-Semite, a racist, and runs a website aimed at Neo-Nazis and KKK members, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a really cool dude.

Appearing on  MSNBC Wednesday afternoon, Trump communications manager Jason Miller told host Kristen Welker that Bannon is a person who has “embraced diversity.” Then he added this nugget of bullcrap:

“I think some of your descriptions were way out-of-bounds here. Steve Bannon is a Zionist, he is someone who is so solidly pro-Israel, he went and founded Breitbart Jerusalem. He’s someone, his entire life — everything from mentoring African-Americans youth during his life. I mean, he’s had this great record.

He may have had a populist website that thrives on political commentary. Much in the same way that on the other side MSNBC has its political commentary in the evenings that probably gets things a little bit ratcheted up and tries to get some extra views. I totally respect that.”

Welker reminded Miller that Bannon has called Breitbart a forum for the alt-right, which is filled with white nationalists such as Richard Spencer and other hate-filled dirtbags:

“Those are his words. He is still someone in the minds and the eyes of many people of color all across this country is a symbol of someone who is not going to embrace them.”

Miller only doubled down on his defense of the indefensible Bannon, saying:

“I’ve seen him bring people together for inclusion and embrace diversity. The way that he helped take this populist message into the inner cities, our urban renewal plan the president-elect put together. This is a White House that’s going to do really great things.”

Really? Well actions speak a lot louder than words.
