Former President George W. Bush has never been a supporter of the current administration. He refused to endorse President Donald Trump during his campaign. He has been fairly quiet on Trump’s ties to Russia. That changed today as he appeared on NBC’s Today.
Bush addressed issues such as immigration and the connection of Trump and Russia while promoting his book of paintings of wounded veterans. As ABC13 reports:
“Former President George W. Bush said Monday ‘we all need answers’ on the extent of contact between President Donald Trump’s team and the Russian government, and didn’t rule out the idea that a special prosecutor could be necessary to lead an investigation.”
Bush also stated that immigration policy needs to be approached as an accepting nation. He stated that we will find it hard to fight terrorism if we are folding in on ourselves and retreating, and said:
“I think it’s very hard to fight the war on terrorism if we’re in retreat.”
Bush also had criticism on Trump’s war on the media. He warned that power can become intoxicating, saying:
“We need an independent media to hold people like me to account.”
He said that we will find it difficult to show other nations how to hold their governments accountable if we are scrutinizing and discrediting our own press. The press needs to be able to hold the government accountable. President Bush stated that he spent a lot of time trying to convince Russian President Vladimir Putin to embrace the media.
No one with any amount of common sense believes that Trump is doing right with the media, immigration, or his obvious ties to Russia. When the voice of reason liberals are praising is coming from President Bush, you know we have fallen down the rabbit hole and into a world of madness. When is it going to become a national crisis? Are we supposed to watch it happen until it’s too late to react?
