Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) continues to prove to be one of the biggest thorns in President Donald Trump’s side by savaging the America’s Snowflake-in-Chief on Twitter after he inexplicably fired a New York U.S. attorney.
On Saturday, Preet Bharara, the now former Manhattan-based federal prosecutor who had jurisdiction over the area home to Trump Tower, confirmed via Twitter that Trump had indeed fired him. Bharara tweeted:
“I did not resign. Moments ago I was fired. Being the US Attorney in SDNY will forever be the greatest honor of my professional life.”

Bharara didn’t go into great detail as to why he was fired, but he did give a hint that there was possibly pressure from the administration to prove his loyalty to Trump over the rule of law. In a statement Bharara said:
“One hallmark of justice is absolute independence, and that was my touchstone every day that I served.”
Trump’s decision to fire Bharara comes just weeks after the president made a very public show of having the attorney go before the cameras at Trump Tower in November to announce that he’d been asked to stay on as New York’s U.S. Attorney. At the time Bharara told the press:
“The president-elect asked — presumably because he’s a New Yorker and is aware of the great work that our office has done over the past seven years — asked to meet with me to discuss whether or not I’d be prepared to stay on as the United States attorney to do the work we have done, independently, without fear or favor for the last seven years.”
“He also asked that I stay on, and so I expect that I will be continuing to work at the southern district.”
After Bharara’s statement, it didn’t take long before Warren took to Twitter to publicly call out the president for his continued blatant politicization of the U.S. Justice Department. The Democratic senator hinted that Trump fired Bharara so he could replace him with a “loyalist” who would look the other way should anyone accuse Trump of wrongdoing.
.@realDonaldTrump talked a big game about getting corruption out of gov. But he wants a bunch of tame prosecutors who won’t investigate him.

.@realDonaldTrump wants people like AG Sessions – a loyalist who lied to the Senate about meeting with the Russians – in @TheJusticeDept.

The senator also pointed out how Trump broke his promise to keep Bharara on, adding that the president broke protocol when he called the now-former U.S. attorney shortly before firing him.
Weeks ago, @realDonaldTrump promised to keep Preet Bharara as the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan. Yesterday, Preet was fired. Why?
— Elizabeth Warren (@SenWarren) March 12, 2017
Preet Bharara had authority over Trump Tower. @realDonaldTrump called him directly, breaching protocol. 24 hrs later he was asked to resign.

Warren suggested that Trump feared Bharara because he:
“…Stands up to both parties & Wall Street.”
GOP & Dems respect Preet Bharara as a fearless prosecutor who stands up to both parties & Wall Street. I guess that's why Trump fired him.

The senator also brought up Trump firing of former U.S. Attorney General Sally Yates who refused to instruct lawyers to defend Trump’s now-defunct Muslim ban in court. Warren promised that Trump was in for a “massive fight” during the confirmation hearings for his U.S. Attorney nominees.
You can't fire the rule of law, @realDonaldTrump. You can't shut down ongoing investigations by career prosecutors.
— Elizabeth Warren (@SenWarren) March 12, 2017
Newsflash, @realDonaldTrump: The Senate confirms US Attorneys. And you're not replacing real prosecutors with cronies w/out a massive fight.

The stench of the Trump administration’s corruption continues to emit toxic fumes and byproducts, much like the numerous factories he’s trying to unregulate. Trump has a proven track record of removing competent, independent attorneys and replacing them with political toadies eager to please their master. Democrats have face a huge challenge in trying to prevent Trump from turning the judicial branch into a politicized freak show. That’s why it’s important that the American people stay
Democrats face the daunting task of trying to prevent Trump from turning the judicial branch into a politicized freak show. That’s why it’s important that the American people stay informed and continue to actively push back against Trump’s corrupt agenda. We can’t allow ourselves to get distracted by his absurd diversions while he undermines our Constitution under cover of darkness.
