If Ivanka Trump views herself as a feminist, then perhaps we need a new definition.
Defending Daddy
Ivanka recently attended the G20 Women’s Summit in Berlin, Germany. Flanked by actual feminists, such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, she failed miserably at defending her father.
In her defense, President Donald Trump did make campaign promises to support women. But his words were full of hypocrisy. His campaign manager even suggested that rape would cease to exist if women were stronger.
Yet Ivanka defended her daddy by saying:
“He has been a tremendous champion of supporting families and enabling them to thrive.”
It wasn’t long before audience members began to boo at her. Maybe they were triggered by his repeated attacks against Planned Parenthood or his repeal of the 2014 Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Order.
Apparently Trump doesn’t believe there are pay gaps between men and women. Then again, he actually said this about the women on his Reality TV show:
I think you mean subconsciously, Mr. President.
Unable to ignore the jeers, it was time to Ivanka to weigh in.
Jeers
German journalist Miriam Meckel was moderating the convention and pointed out why they were booing, saying:
“You hear the reaction from the audience. So I need to address one more point. Some attitudes towards women your father has publicly displayed in former times might leave one, uh, questioning whether he’s such an ’empower’ for women.”
Instead of acknowledging her father’s long, disturbing history of misogyny, Ivanka pretended as though all of those videos of him didn’t exist:
“I’ve certainly heard the criticism from the media and that’s been perpetuated. But I know from personal experience, and I think the thousands of women who have worked with and for my father for decades when he was in the private sector, are a testament to his belief and solid conviction in the potential of women.”
She must have forgotten about her father suggesting that wives shouldn’t even work. Although we do give her credit for at least shaking Merkel’s hand.

Unlike her father.
Then again, perhaps she sees something in his incestuous eyes that we don’t. Trump’s love for his own daughter does transcend normal daddy-daughter relationships.
So if you’re reading this Ivanka, we understand that you can’t help who your parents are. We even understand that you might have to tread carefully because of the family business. But please stop trying to pass yourself off as a feminist while being complicit with your father’s blatant misogyny.
