As residents of both Texas and Florida attempt to rebuild their lives after the damage inflicted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, President Trump thought it would be the perfect time to start urging Congress to act on tax cuts for the richest Americans. And he even tried to use the hurricanes to make his point:
With Irma and Harvey devastation, Tax Cuts and Tax Reform is needed more than ever before. Go Congress, go!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 13, 2017
Yeah, people have seen their homes destroyed and million are still without power or water, but Trump wants to make sure Congress gets busy on those tax cuts which will benefit him and his family, along with other members of the top 1 percent. If you make a million dollars a year or more, the Trump tax cut would boost your income by 5 percent a year! That’s great news for Donald Jr., Eric, Ivanka, Jared Kushner, and the other millionaires and billionaires in Trump’s administration, but what about the rest of us?
Fortunately, there was plenty of resistance from others on social media who took Trump to task:
This makes no sense. Hurricanes are going to require more federal government spending. That means cutting taxes will just hurt relief effort

Actually, those hurricanes suggest action on climate change is needed more than ever before.

Cut taxes where? To aid in disaster relief how? To fix the deficit when? To give more money to who?

How are you going to pay for relief if you lower taxes? Gonna try and get Mexico to pay for that after your imaginary wall? Fucking idiot.

No. Power being restored, shelter, aid, food and water are much more needed than tax cuts for the rich.

Person standing in a flooded home, needing help to gut the drywall before toxic mold grows: "What we need now is a CORPORATE TAX RATE CUT"!

I sure miss the days when our president's tweets didn't read like they were fingerpainted in his own feces on the padded walls of his cell.

Using natural disasters to push your nefarious policies is disgusting

Tax Cuts for whom? People like u?
Or people like me? By the way, I am in Miami – I was in #HurricaneIrma ??— Marian (@LalanneMariana) September 13, 2017
Trump is disgusting sack of human excrement. Thousands of people see their dreams lying in ruins, and he’s whining about tax cuts. There aren’t enough words for just how disgusting and deplorable he is.
