Granted, we all knew Energy Secretary Rick Perry was a complete idiot, but he just put a resounding exclamation point on his own ignorance.
Speaking at an energy policy discussion, Perry talked about his recent trip to Africa. He said a young African girl told him energy is very important to her because she often has to read by the light from a fire which produces toxic fumes. That led Perry to comment:
“But also from the standpoint of sexual assault. When the lights are on, when you have light that shines, the righteousness, if you will, on those types of acts.”
Perry also said that using fossil fuel to provide power for remote villages in Africa is absolutely necessary and will play a “positive role” in people’s lives.

The stupid; it burns!
Fortunately, Twitter quickly let Secretary Perry know what it thought of his remarks:
Who knew that it was LIGHT that would stop sexual predators dead in their tracks?
