Tracy Morgan Boycotting Mississippi Because Of LGBT Bathroom Law

Mississippi has joined North Carolina in policing where people pee. Comedian Tracy Morgan has joined the celebrities boycotting states with these “bathroom laws.” The law signed Tuesday also takes away other discrimination protections from people in the LGBT community. Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant said that the bill is needed:

“…to protect sincerely held religious beliefs and moral convictions of individuals, organizations and private associations from discriminatory action by state government.”

Morgan was set to play at the Horseshoe Tunica Hotel & Casino in Robinsville, Mississippi. Here is what his representatives said in an official statement:

“Tracy did not make this decision lightly. He very much looks forward to rescheduling his tour dates in the area after the ‘Protecting Freedom of Conscience from Government Discrimination Act’ is either repealed or heavily amended.”

Tracy Morgan has not always been in favor of the LGBT community, though. He got in trouble in 2011 when he said he would stab his own child if the child turned out to be gay. I hope that he is boycotting because he has changed his mind and not for a publicity stunt.

What is in the “Bathroom Law”?

It “protects” people who believe that a valid marriage is only between a man and a woman, that sex is only for marriage, and that male and female gender is defined at birth from discrimination. What does it really do? It removes protections from many other groups, especially those in the LGBT community, who now face discrimination because of these intolerant leaders.

Religious leaders will be allowed to refuse to perform gay marriages, LGBT adoptions, and foster care services. People could potentially be fired from their job if their boss thinks they are in the LGBT classifications. Surgeons will be allowed to refuse to perform sexual reassignment surgeries. Retailers that provide wedding services to gay weddings. DJs, limousine drivers, photographers, and others could refuse to provide their services for gay weddings. Employers and school officials can dictate where employees and students may use bathroom facilities specifically intended for one gender.

Hopefully, these laws will be repealed. Continued boycotts by entertainment people and businesses are serving to bring light to the blatant unconstitutionality of these laws.
