According to all the pundits, after Donald Trump won all five states in yesterday’s GOP primaries, the last hope for Ted Cruz lies in the state of Indiana. If he can win there, the chance still remains for him to deny Trump a first-ballot nomination at the Republican convention.
While campaigning yesterday in Indiana, Cruz decided to do a little pandering to the Hoosier state, which loves its basketball. So he told a group of supporters the race was far from over with, using this analogy:
“The amazing thing is that basketball ring here in Indiana, it’s the same height as it is in New York City and every other place in this country. And there is nothing that Hoosiers cannot do.”
Basketball ring?! Really, Ted? You try to make a good first impression and this is what you come up with?
Reaction and ridicule on social media was swift and unforgiving. Take a look:
There's one thing you don't f*ck up in Indiana, and that's basketball references #BasketballRing https://t.co/XIFGSOIJT1

Ted Cruz's campaign went to the trouble of having the Hickory sign and everything. And still proceeded to call it a basketball ring ???

Wow, @tedcruz referred to a hoop at the Hoosier gym as a "basketball ring". As a Texan, I apologize for the monster we created.

So much for making a good first impression with the folks in Indiana, Ted. Maybe it’s time to go on back to Texas and admit that you’re just not good at this whole running for President thing.
