You would think that a Republican member of Congress from Texas who gets an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association wouldn’t be too much of a spineless wimp to hold a town hall meeting with his constituents, but Louie Gohmert has decided he won’t face voters, and he claims it’s all because of what happened to former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who was shot at a constituent event in 2011.
In a statement, Gohmert announced:
“At this time there are groups from the more violent strains of the leftist ideology, some even being paid, who are preying on public town halls to wreak havoc and threaten public safety.
In lieu of having an actual town hall, Gohmert says he will instead hold phone town halls. Gohmert claims this will allow more of his constituents to participate in the process:
What Louie the Lone Star weasel neglected to mention is that phone-in town hall meetings also allow his staff to screen the calls that are allowed to reach the congressman. And it prevents Gohmert from having to look voters in the eye as he lies to them.
Gohmert is afraid. Not of being shot, but of being peppered with endless questions about why he wants to take away affordable health insurance from his constituents and why he refuses to say a cross word about the dangerous megalomaniac in the White House.
Hey, Louie, you might want to grow a pair before you head back to Washington.
