Republican Congressman and former VP candidate Paul Ryan, will likely be the next Speaker of the House. But who is Paul Ryan? Ok, he is fairly handsome and quite young, but what does he believe? What has he said? Here is a list of some of the craziest.
- “I’m very proud of my pro-life record, and I’ve always adopted the idea that, the position that the method of conception doesn’t change the definition of life.” –Yes, another delusional Republican who thinks rape and incest victims should just deal with that horrendous experience and have their perpetrator’s baby. What year is this?
- “[T]he reason I got involved in public service, by and large, if I had to credit one thinker, one person, it would be Ayn Rand.” –This was Mr. Ryan speaking in 2005 to a group of people at the Atlas Society which is dedicated to promoting Rand’s beliefs. How shocking that a prominent Republican would owe so much to a woman who thinks we are all here for ourselves and altruism is a farce. I HAVE to note though, that Ryan has since rejected Rand and has said that he is more fond of Thomas Aquinas, not Rand. But I mean, his policies speak for themselves.
- Social Security is a “Ponzi scheme“-He wants to privatize social security and had a plan that was even too out there for then President George W. Bush.
- “…tailspin of culture, in our inner cities in particular, of men not working and just generations of men not even thinking about working or learning the value and the culture of work.” –That was Ryan in 2014. He walked back, saying these comments were inarticulate and blaming society for isolating the poor instead of integrating them. He thinks the government has created a poverty trap. But Ryan, we know what you meant. I am sick of politicians articulating, at length, points that they try and say were not what they meant. You explained it. You thought about it. You went on about it. Ryan like many, seem to think people are just lazy, especially inner city people, so, basically, blacks.
- On same-sex Couples Adopting: “I think if a person wants to love and raise a child they ought to be able to do that. Period.” On same-sex marriage: “I do believe marriage is between a man and a woman.” Ok, so you may be thinking well, Ryan supports adoption when many Republicans don’t. However, how strange? Why support adoption without supporting the many legal benefits that can be awarded to those couples taking children into their homes? It doesn’t make sense.
Representative Ryan may not be the worst Republican in Congress, but he certainly has a lot of outrageous views. This is 2015. I am sick of anti-poor, anti-equality, anti-women, anti-reason politicians in power.
